i dont know what it could be that im allergic to, thoguht it was hair dye as it only appeared since i been workin in a hair dressers. but it didnt appear on my hands only my face and neck. its kindof red marks, some with whiteheads and they are itchy. the doctor thought i was only allergic to it when i have it on me, like when im gettin my hair dyed. but.... i havn had my hair dyed since and it has appeared again!!!! how do i get rid of it!! posted another question explainin all details. i want it gone for good!! how do i get rid of it?? i am starting taking anti histamines again as this is third time its appeared since end of august!! and using hyrocortasone creme too. but i used those last time and it has appeared again. so they obviously didnt work last time. please help. i really need your advice!!! x x x x x

Reply:Since you have no idea what is causing the reaction, you should probably go to your doctor. Allergies like this worsen over time. In the meantime, Benadryl started making quick dissolve strips. I used them last year when I had a reaction (to the acid in raw tomato ... go figure); they work quickly since they are being absorbed as soon as you put it on your tongue. At the very least, it helps with the swelling, redness and any itching.

Im concerned skin rash, allergy, disorder???
Ok for about the last 2 months iv'e been getting these weird rash type of effects on my arms n even now palms, n feet, sumtimes legs.
It's mainly my arms n hands. At first i thought because i work in a warehouse it must be sumthing in there, I come in contact with all kinds of cardboard n dust etc.... some actually seem to have an effect i do believe tho...
The thing is i notice that sometimes it happens off of work also, like on the weekends even or whateva just randomly....
at work tho it seems more vicious they look like red lines that bubble up across my arms and or little dots aswell they irritate me n somewhat itch but i dont feel the need to itch.
but after about 15 20 minutes they fade away n disapear completely.
basically when they bubble up they'll look like a huge mosquito bite, like literally red n bubbled. it can be in the morning, at night big area small area random spots on my arm, upper or lower, top of hands, i even seen on my palm the other day, wtf?!? help

Being someone that has had loads of these tests I can honestly say not likely. It is allergy season though so it is most likely the allergies themselves causing it. It may also be your remedy for the allergies causing this. Using Nasal sprays, even pills. Pills can cause fluids to move and..... Things to know Nasal sprays #1 can be addicting, never had it happen, but saw it on the news, and #2 they can cause sinus infections, had that happen. I used a sinus spray to keep the inflammation in check and when I stopped using it the flare up caused an infection. So be careful.

one day i noticed on red dot, like a mosquito bite on my chest, it itched but i didn't itched it that often, then the next day there were 7, i didn't itch it at all because i blamed the itching from the first day that made the other 6, the it doubled the next day, then it tripled until my whole chest until my waist and back were covered in little red dots and one big one that looks like a hive, i went to the doc and they gave me a cream but the explanation they gave me was like reading the manual for making a computer by scratch, i want to know what the hell is going on with me and why the cream is taking so long to do its thing. . . . any answer would be appreaciated

Make-up allergy? or on the skin?
okay...actually i try using make-up, but this is the problem i use o'real make-up, but what happened after using it i start scratching my face due to itchiness, my question is...is it on the chemicals used on the make-up or on the skin? help me...tell me what is the best product to used for anti-allergy make-up's?!?!

If this still doesn't help, then you should probably see a dermatologist.

Lots of sinus problems? itching or flaking scalp that seems chronic and not just like normal dandruff? Brocitus (Asthma)? red itchy eyes at time? If he has alot of these other things then the skin thing very well could just be another of many allergy symptoms.Eczema usually flakes though.It starts as skin discoloration then seems to work its way to the surface and causes scaling and flaking around the area before it heals (often coming back in the exact same area where it was before).If you don't see flaking it could be something else.

Hill's Prescription Diet Z/D formula it is a vegetarian dog food. Don't give any treats. Just feed this food. If symptoms clear up you know it is food related. Dogs can be allergic to common proteins, like chicken beef. Also wheat and corn. Wheat Gluten. Red food dye.
Next continue with the Z/D food, and take away all household irritants like room deodorizers, carpet cleaning powders, use Purfume Free Detergents. No Febreeze. No pinesol.
Also bath dog in Hypoallergenic shampoo.
Make sure dog is on Frontline or Advantage. If it is a flea allergy then that will give the dog hot spots, as well as being very itchy. Flea allergies, and food are the MOST common.

I'm not sure exactly what plants, trees and grasses they use. It may be specific to the region you live in, but I found you a couple of sites to look at. The test is more irritating than painful. I have always found webmd to provide helpful hints and the mayoclinic is awesome for most all medical type questions. Hope this is helpful.

For anyone who has had skin scratch allergy testing...?
When the skin scratch tests are done, is ANY wheal a positive or do they have to be so big? I found one site that said 3 mm up and another that said any reaction at all. When our son had his done at the first allergist, they tested 21 foods and cat(plus the controls). It seemed to me that there were 7 or 8 that were raised about the same and a few that were just tiny and other spots you couldn't even tell he'd been poked. Three were even still quite noticeable several hours later!
Our son was only 7 months old old when this first set was done so we realize that the results may not be entirely accurate, that either he hadn't had enough exposure to an allergen to show a positive reaction and that others his body may just be too immature to handle.
The allergist he was seeing only recorded one positive result besides the control. We have since changed allergists because I was feeling the first was incompetant and I am wondering if we shoudl not ask the new allergist to redo them.

From my point of view I would say that yes you should get the test redone with the new allergist that you trust. It is VERY IMPORTANT to know what he is allergic to so that it can be avoided .
However, please know that it tends to be a long process to fully understand allergies and that not everything may show up on either of the tests. I am highly allergic to milk but it doesn't show up on the skin test or the RAST. It was only through trying a small sample in front of the allergist that he was able to fully diagnosis it.
Talk to your allergist and voice your concerns. Be very vocal and ask him EVERY question, even the ones you may think are silly. I would bring up the smaller bumps with the new allergist and get his opinion, he may tell you what everyone else is saying but at least you will have a definite answer. This is your sons life your talking about and you have the responsibility to do everything you can to keep him safe.

I found out I had a metal allergy from my belt about two years ago. I had a rash and it eventually went away. I am now left with two spots of skin discoloration on my waist area. I am light skinned and the spots are light brownish. Is there a way to get rid of it? Anything a doctor can give me? Did it work for you?

I’ve always had slightly reddish skin on my cheeks, nose, and chin, and have always flushed very easily (people must think I’m embarrassed all the time, but I’m not). I recently read about rosacea and immediately thought that I must have it. But I have other symptoms that rosacea is not supposed to cause…
Sometimes my face flushes for absolutely no reason, and feels hot and irritated at the same time. My skin turns bright red, feels like it is being stretched, and even feels hot to the touch, like I’m feverish. It also feels like every ounce of moisture has simply left my skin. It’s EXACTLY like the feeling of sitting too close to a campfire. I’ve tried pinpointing foods, alcohol, skin care products that I use, clothes I wear, etc., and I can’t find a trigger. I know that physical exertion, warm temperatures, and bright sunlight definitely make it worse, but it happens sometimes when none of these factors are present.
These “attacks” have been happening to some degree for over 5 years now (I’m almost 29), but for the last year or so they seem to have become much more frequent. Now that summer is here (which means more heat and sunlight), it’s happening nearly every day. I’m embarrassed to go out in public with people because I’m afraid my face is going to light up.
Could I have rosacea AND sensitive skin? Or could this be something else entirely?

Reply:I suspect you damaged your skin from repeated exposure to heat which can be confused with rosacea. My suggestion is too strictly avoid heat including all forms for two years. This includes the heat from the sun(suntanning), saunas, steam from cooking, sitting under hot lights, etc. On hot days, avoid putting suntan lotion, heavy makeup, or heavy moisturing on your skin. The oils and lotions will trap in the heat. When you excercise, take a water bottle and spray your face to keep your skin cool. Don't put steroid creams on your face, they thin the skin(atrophy). Spicey food and hot drinks will still cause your skin to flush because you have thin skin and a reduced ability to sweat on your face. I left you the link of the name of the condition I think you have. You don't need to have mottle skin to have it, just redness(erythema).

Is it worth it to allergy test (skin prick) a 3 month baby?
My son has eczema. And the allergist recommended a skin test. But I heard from the pediatrician that it is not worth it since their immune systems are not fully developed yet. Their allergies are not stable at this time.

My oldest son has Pustular Psoriasis and my middle son has Eczema and with both of them the pediatric dermatologist recommended using Dove bar soap for sensitive skin and use Eucerine lotion. Use both daily. You just have to be careful with not getting the soap in his eyes.. Also, for both of my sons I through trail and error found that Purex Dye free detergent works the best. Sometimes it is the perfumes in things that can cause a eczema breakout. Or it can happen when they get hot , they can develop it in the folds of skin like neck area or back of knee area or any fat rolls.For those areas use Pure Talcum Powder because it absorbs more moisture and prevents it from chaffing. Be careful with getting it into the air

My golden retriever had an allergy skin test 2 weeks ago?
and his blood was sent to Heska labs in CO for additional testing. It came back just 5 days later and the vet is being very vague about the results. He now wants to try a food allergy test because he feels allergy shots won't help. I asked to see the results from the lab and fortunately that particular vet was not there, so they gave me the results (his tech gave them to be with great hesitation). I am curious. Has anyone had their dog tested with just the blood test and how many allergens they actually test for. I have been doing some research and see where others have been tested for foods, grains, environmental, but it appears my dog was just tested for a few things (no foods at all). Is this vet just looking for a sucker to pay off his new beach house (that would be me) or do they only test for a few things? Please advise ASAP... I love my golden more than anything and don't like being taken by someone who knows I would do anything for my baby.

Allergies are serious business, and if your Vet is just going to not decide to tell your results, then there is something wrong.
Especially if your dog isn't allergic and they decide to make you pay for expensive allergy treatment, they could just be wanting money.

My educated guess would be that there wasn't many allergens that your pet was severely allergic to, therefore allergy sensitization would not be beneficial. I would encourage you to talk to your vet about why he wants to put your pet on a food trial and what allergens your pet was allergic to.

Usually corn is the ingredient responsible for skin allergies in dogs, check your ingredients. My kids love (did an actual taste test with them) Pedigree lamb and rice (won over Pedigree chicken - contains corn-, both products in each bowl.)
Don't have a clue about blood work tests. Wonder why you're sure it's allergies.

We figured out that he was allergic to fleas and would take him to the vet to get a cortizone shot. That is some kind of steroid shot that worked wonders for my dog! Give it a try. As for that vet of yours, any vet who is hesitant in giving results to you should make you wonder about his confidence in the kind of vet he is. Take those results to another vet and get a 2nd opinion. A 2nd opinion is always good. Let me know how he's doing

You might ask him why it was done the way it was. If you are not satisfied with his answer, then yes, find another vet. Just understand that the results you are looking for may not be found in a blood test.

When do they do the allergy skin prick test on your forearm?
I often hear from people I know and meet about their allergy prick test expirience. All of them have told me that they had the allergy prick test done on their back. However, when I look up photos of allergy prick test on the internet most of the photos show the test is often done on the right forearm and occaisionally the left forearm. When exactly do they do the allergy prick test on the forearm instead of the back?

Most of the times exposing ourselves to the sun does this... you should avoid using poducts formulatted with mineral oil, animal prooducts or fragrances which all these ingredients are very harmfull for our skin.. My friend's son had this when he was about 2 YOA. It can be very scary and very scary looking. He (my friend's son) literally woke one morning with circular patches that looked like bruises-all over his body.
She flipped out when she saw him-when he woke up. (It looked like he had been beaten severely) She then brought him over to my house and asked what to do. I told her if she didn't bring him to the ER asap-I was gonna call 911.
She brought him to the hospital and he wound up having Erythema multiforme.
This condition can be brought on by a number of different things. Infections can bring it on. So can allergies to different things.
What I imagine your friend's DR would do-is give your friend Benadryl to help with the itching and help the immune system calm down, oral steroids to help the immune system and to help swelling, and anitbiotics to prevent any infections associated with this.
The severity of this condition can vary largely. It can be mild and your friend can stay at home and take the medications for it and be fine. It can also be very, very serious requiring some people to go to burn units for treatment.

I have a friend who is suffering from erythema multiforme....any info about this skin allergy?
My friend's son had this when he was about 2 YOA. It can be very scary and very scary looking. He (my friend's son) literally woke one morning with circular patches that looked like bruises-all over his body.
She flipped out when she saw him-when he woke up. (It looked like he had been beaten severely) She then brought him over to my house and asked what to do. I told her if she didn't bring him to the ER asap-I was gonna call 911.
She brought him to the hospital and he wound up having Erythema multiforme.
This condition can be brought on by a number of different things. Infections can bring it on. So can allergies to different things.
What I imagine your friend's DR would do-is give your friend Benadryl to help with the itching and help the immune system calm down, oral steroids to help the immune system and to help swelling, and anitbiotics to prevent any infections associated with this.
The severity of this condition can vary largely. It can be mild and your friend can stay at home and take the medications for it and be fine. It can also be very, very serious requiring some people to go to burn units for treatment.

Erythema multiforme is a type of hypersensitivity (allergic) reaction that occurs in response to medications, infections, or illness. Medications associated with erythema multiforme include sulfonamides, penicillins, barbiturates, and phenytoin. Associated infections include herpes simplex and mycoplasma infections.
The exact cause is unknown. The disorder is believed to involve damage to the blood vessels of the skin with subsequent damage to skin tissues. Approximately 90% of erythema multiforme cases are associated with herpes simplex or mycoplasma infections. The disorder occurs primarily in children and young adults.
Erythema multiforme may become noticeable with a classic skin lesion, with or without systemic (whole body) symptoms. In Stevens-Johnson syndrome, the systemic symptoms are severe and the lesions are extensive, involving multiple body areas, especially the mucous membranes. Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN syndrome, or Lyell's syndrome) involves multiple large blisters (bullae) that coalesce, followed by sloughing of all or most of the skin and mucous membranes.

Treatment of mild symptoms may include:
Moist compresses applied to skin lesions
Medications such as antihistamines to control itching
Over-the-counter medications (such as acetaminophen) to reduce fever and discomfort
Topical anesthetics (especially for mouth lesions) to ease discomfort that interferes with eating and drinking
Treatment of severe symptoms may include:
Hospitalization and treatment in an intensive care or burn care unit for severe cases, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, and toxic epidermal necrolysis

Expectations (prognosis):
Mild forms of erythema multiforme usually resolve without difficulty in 2 - 6 weeks, but they may recur. More severe forms may be difficult to treat. Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrolysis are associated with high death rates.

started getting daily headaches 5yrs ago. itchy ears started sametime as headaches. left ear inside itches so bad wakes me up. the more i scratch, the more it itches. i can't help but scatch the inside. have dry skin in creases around nose and bad dandruff. allergic to dust, cat and ragweed and cows milk, i've covered bed and pillows with allergen procter, but no relief. every cream try doesn't work. seeing ENT and ALLERGIST but not for months. can itchy ears be allergy to dust? what can i do? want to rip off ears and head for headaches.

Put it on once in the morning, before school, once or twice in the afternoon, and once before bed. Repeat this cycle for about a week or two and your childs dryness will be solved and very soft. If it does happen again, repeat the cycle.

Any and all skin creams take time to get rid of the red and itch. From the dermatoligist they can give you the cream as well as a cortizone shot. The shot will clear it up almost right away but you can't get it a lot so be careful when you choose to get one. In between times and while you are waiting for the creams and lotions to work use a cover up stick. you can find it in practially any store that sells make up.

Hi, I had the same problem so I got into the routine every night and every morning putting on Palmers cocobutter or Simple moisturising body cream,both are really good dont bother with bio oil as it doesnt seem to do any thing, you have to be really patient as this can take weeks before you see it working ..but it does, I had allergy scratch scars on my arms and now they have faded so much that you cant see them thats how well they have faded, good luck

Your cat (like mine) has allergies. It's best to take him to the vet now to make sure it is allergies. There are a variety of things they can give you to help his itching. This isn't going to go away, unfortunately, and may get worse. My cat has had allergies since she was about 1 1/2 years old. She scratches her ears and neck and occasionally gets a secondary infection from the scratching. Keep an eye on him and take him to the doc pronto!!

Reply:Flea bite allergy - keep a good flea deterrent on him (Revolution is best, Advantage and Frontline work too) and if it's really bad, take him to the vet for a steroid shot. If you can't keep him inside, use Revolution on him - it protects against all the things that bite him, and heartworm, too, which is a growing problem with cats.
Best solution, however, is keep him inside and have him neutered. Then you have a healthy, happy cat that will live a lot longer!
Reply:My cat had the same thing when we moved to another town and I was told it was allergies (the hair would fall or she would tear it out). The vet gave me some drops and told me to keep her in.
The vet also told me to bath her if she gets out
Cats are very clean My cat was allergic to some form of plant that was not in the other town we were in, but if you brush it off and clean her skin by giving her a bath right away (a little baking soda helps with the itching) and not let it get into her mouth it helps a lot.
Going to a vet help a lot and it has been a few years and there might be more they can do now.

Reply:I knew a cat who was allergic to grass (of all things) that did similar things. He had severe asthma type breathing problems from it at times. He had to go to the vet for allergy shots. Have your vet look the cat over. It might even be something like the kind of product you use to clean your floors, but since it is a seasonal thing it is more likely to be fleas or grass or the like.
Reply:More than likely your cat has seasonal allergies. What you are seeing probably a staph infection. Take the kitty to the vet, who will treat symptomatically or will give you a general allergy medication. If you have the funds available, I highly reccomend an allergy test to see exactly what it is that your cat is allergic to. Then, you can decide to treat with an allergy medication tailored to the types of allergies your cat has.
Reply:That sounds like fleas. The reaction is called Flea Allergy Dermatitis and it's a reaction to the flea saliva. My new female had this, so I put both of my cats on Frontline Plus. I hear Revolution is good, but Advantage only kills adult fleas. Frontline Plus kills adult fleas, larvae, and eggs, and prevents reinfestation for up to a month.
Some people think their cats won't get fleas if they're indoor cats, so they don't believe people when they tell them the problem is from fleas. Well, even indoor cats can get fleas. They can be brought in on other animals (dogs and such), get at cats through screen doors and windows, and even come in on YOUR clothes and shoes.
It definitely sounds like FAD to me, but I'd recommend taking him to the vet to make sure it's not something else.

This isn't going to go away, unfortunately, and may get worse. My cat has had allergies since she was about 1 1/2 years old. She scratches her ears and neck and occasionally gets a secondary infection from the scratching. Keep an eye on him and take him to the doc pronto!!

Cats are very clean My cat was allergic to some form of plant that was not in the other town we were in, but if you brush it off and clean her skin by giving her a bath right away (a little baking soda helps with the itching) and not let it get into her mouth it helps a lot.
Going to a vet help a lot and it has been a few years and there might be more they can do now.

Reply:More than likely your cat has seasonal allergies. What you are seeing probably a staph infection. Take the kitty to the vet, who will treat symptomatically or will give you a general allergy medication. If you have the funds available, I highly reccomend an allergy test to see exactly what it is that your cat is allergic to. Then, you can decide to treat with an allergy medication tailored to the types of allergies your cat has.

I hear Revolution is good, but Advantage only kills adult fleas. Frontline Plus kills adult fleas, larvae, and eggs, and prevents reinfestation for up to a month.
Some people think their cats won't get fleas if they're indoor cats, so they don't believe people when they tell them the problem is from fleas. Well, even indoor cats can get fleas. They can be brought in on other animals (dogs and such), get at cats through screen doors and windows, and even come in on YOUR clothes and shoes.
It definitely sounds like FAD to me, but I'd recommend taking him to the vet to make sure it's not something else.

I was diagnosed w/non-allergic rhinitis, but I'm not convinced. After my first round of allergy tests (via pin-prick and injection) I had no reaction whatsoever. Yet I've always been slightly allergic to mesquite and when I walk by olive trees in bloom it's hard to breathe, my face gets really hot and my eyes water so badly I can't see clearly.
The next day after my testing I developed a skin rash behind my right ear (my right arm got the shots) %26amp; it's been itchy with flat small red spots. I have this over a week later. I also got a bizarre blister behind my left knee that itched. My IBS flared up randomly. I'm 16 and I would get these tiny red dots all over my leg (and just my leg) every month. It's horrible! It's always unbearably itchy which makes it worse. Sometimes they get inflamed and i feel a burning sensation. Half of them are just flat... itchy red dots (no its not chicken pox) and half of them are bumpy like (kind of like a mosquitoe bite but its not) and in the middle is a tiny hole. Look for yourself.

So the answer to your question is YES, don't do what I did, because you never know, you may be allergic to a specific ingredient that one of the hair color brands have!

I have had this with 3 of my 4 pregnancies.
All it is, is a simple itch that will drive you crazy that is the only symptom.
Ask to have your BILE SALTS tested this is the only test that will diagnose OC,
Argue with your Dr if you have to, it is worth it.
Liver fuction tests and blood counts DO NOT diagnose OC the only can help the diagnoses in conjunction with Bile salt tests .
An itch doesn't seem much but it can be FATAL to your baby if it goes undiagnosed.
The itching can be any where I had it on my legs and arms at first.

Itching is common in normal pregnancy and is thought to be due to the liver's response to the hormones in pregnancy and a raised bilirubin level (bilirubin is a substance in bile). It may also be caused by the skin stretching over the abdomen (where the itching usually starts from). However there is a rare, but serious, condition called obstetric cholestasis which may occur in pregnancy, which also leads to itching. This itching originates in other parts of the body, such as the hands, arms, legs and the soles of the feet, and is often worse at night. Because obstetric cholestasis can have potentially serious consequences for the unborn baby, it is important to exclude this as the cause of any itching. Obstetric cholestasis is detected by two blood tests. One is a liver function test and the other is a serum bile acid test. The second of these is the most sensitive. If the results are negative but the itching persists, the tests are usually repeated a week or two later. The treatment for the condition involves giving drugs that will reduce the build-up of bile salts and help to relieve the itching. The most common drugs used are ursodeoxycholic acid, which aids bile flow and therefore decreases the amount of bile salts in the blood, and Dexamethasone, which is a steroid that is sometimes used to mature a baby's lungs if a premature birth is anticipated, and which has also been found to help relieve the itching by suppressing the hormones which contribute to cholestasis. Vitamin K may be given to prevent excessive blood loss at the time of birth. If it is just normal itching then maybe calomile lotion or a gentle moisturiser like E45 cream.
Reply:i feel so sorry for you my daughter has had a rash since 20 weeks and she has been to the doctors and there is nothing they can do for it because its hormonal but she had to have a blood test done to be sure x

The only rash like symptom you may have is whrere you have scracthed so much that you make your skin bleed.
IT IS NOT AS RARE AS PEOPLE THINK
