Skin test showed "trace" of corn allergy. never had corn trouble b4 now its i my head, what shall i do

corn appears to be in EVERYTHING, but she said its only a trace, whatever that means, and ive never noticed anything b4. anyone else familiar with this allergy or what she means by trace?

Skin test showed "trace" of corn allergy. never had corn trouble b4 now its i my head, what shall i do
I too have a mild corn allergy, and you are right, it is in everything... that is artificially sweetened in the US.. in the form of Corn Syrup.. mild allergy just means it's more of an irritant than a serious thing.. and you have to remember that your body can adjust to things, even to allergies.. but that doesn't make it healthy.. a mild allergy COULD raise your blood pressure a little, or make your stomach hurt, or even just a mild headach.. or maybe just give you the runs.. i avoid corn by drinking tea (unsweetened) instead of soda (although diet soda works) .. avoiding ketchup (another large source believe it or not) and i limit my intake of sweet foods.. the end result was my stress levels dropped and i fealt a little better overall
Reply:Talk to her. Find out what she meant, and if you should avoid it. If she tested you she should know.
Reply:Yes, I have had allergies my whole life and have been allergy tested several times. I have been allergic to almost everything, including corn. However, I continue to eat corn and products made from corn. The test is weird, it showed that I was allergic to lots of things I often eat and enjoy such as: chocolate, beef, and peanuts. My doctor explained that these "trace" items have the potential in very large quantities to be harmful but if I ate them in moderation, I should be okay. I don't think you really need to worry.
Reply:Allergic sensitivities range from very slight all the way to near fatal. You could have been born allergic to corn and not have been diagnosed until now because your sensitivity is so slight. Also your sensitivity changes with your age. You could have no traces as an infant, and suddenly manifest the allergy during puberty, then again, it could vanish in your twenties, and re emerge at middle age. Be aware of the allergy, but if it doesn't bother you too much, live with it. Otherwise, your doctor can prescribe medication to suppress the symptoms if they become too burdensome. B.
Reply:Corn is garbage anyway.

It's lots of calories with no food value, what so ever.

If you can avoid it, that would be a good thing, even more than for your allergies.

Good luck

My dog is constantly scratching and chewing on herself due to skin allergies not fleas?

I have a 10 yo bassett hound with unspecified skin allergies. They seem to be excessively bad this summer. Ske is CONSTANTLY chewing and scratching om herself. I know he must be quite uncomfortable and it's driving me nuts. She does not have any fleas and does not have flea allergy disease. I have given her benadryl up to 25mg twice a day without results. I am receptive to any and all suggestions (hoome remedies to prescriptions) that may help relieve her of her discomfort.

My dog is constantly scratching and chewing on herself due to skin allergies not fleas?
My dog gets this too during the summer, the vet says they are hot spots. At grocery stores and pet stores they sell stuff specificially for hot spots on dogs and it doesn't sting them or anything. You just clean the area (or bathe the dog) and apply it to the area. Your dogs problem seems identical to mine and the solution seems to help him. Good luck!
Reply:there are shampoos that have oatmeal in it.

i have also read that cooking oil rubbed into skin can be releaving. brushing her and keeping her coat trimmed.

we have had this problem and the flea one too.

there is a anti itch shampoo and liquid meds to put on. found them at walmart.
Reply:my pug has skin problems at times also, we use a soap with oatmeal in it. also don't over bath him,it dries out there skin even worse. my pug also has dry spots on where his armpits would be if he were human, and we use stridex pads without alcohol for sensitive skin, you would think he would hate it but he rolls over and loves it, it seems to work well during dry months.
Reply:my weiner dog does the same thing..the vet said it is a bacterial infection and gave some chewy pills that he eats with his meals..its working pretty well and he's not chewing anymore..so yea...its probably a bacterial infection..
Reply:I know that your vet can help, but services aren't cheap. My last dog itching trip to the vet was over $100. for services and meds.

First the vet will check for fleas, so it's a good idea to give your pup a bath every week anyhow. An oatmeal soap is suggested for problem skin. There's an oatmeal conditioner too. Bathing gives you a chance to check his skin condition. Particularly red spots may be "hot spots". The vet shaved over the spot last time my dog had one. I know the licking and scratching can drive you crazy. The vet has "Elizabethan collars" also. It blocks scratching but is inconvient for the dog.

If/When the vet determines the cause of itching (you already know it's allergy, but the vet has to check) he can give a shot of steriod medication that may last as long as two months. Prednisone also comes in a pill that can be given to ease the itch.

If pup's miserable, consider a trip to the vet.

How will i know that my zit like skin is not an allergy or a german measles??

German measles will go away and there is no pus. Allergies in the areas where there is acne are usually caused by contact with something to which you are allergic.

Acne is caused when the pores become blocked (black heads, become whiteheads and infection may follow) untreated it may leave nasty scarring. Treatment is usually very successful.

Go to Google Images and you will see what all three look like. Acne is pretty easy to spot - no pun intended.

Has any women had any rashes or skin allergies due to Palmer's Cocoa Butter Stretch Marks lotion?

I recently used the cocoa butter lotion for stretch marks about a week ago and a week later I got this terrible allergy all over my belly it looks like a big rash. And it started itching really bad and burning too.Im taking this prescription cream that the doctor gave me but its still red and itches a lil every now and then. And I feel my skin very dry and achy.Is there any thing else I should do?

Has any women had any rashes or skin allergies due to Palmer's Cocoa Butter Stretch Marks lotion?
I haven't had an allergic reaction but it has made my skin itch. I use Shea butter instead. Maybe Shea Butter might work for you.
Reply:I never had a reaction to it but it didn't prevent stretch marks.. I have LOADS of them.
Reply:i never got a rash from it. but u can use baby oil. see strech marks r bc the skin isnt mosit enough. i mean as long as ur skin its well moist u shouldnt get any. baby oil its really good for that.

Are there any Home remedies for skin condition assoc w/allergy?

My husband is having a serious reaction to the coolant used in the Machine shop he works at. This condition looks and feels very much like poison oak with the blistering and irritation.

Are there any Home remedies for skin condition assoc w/allergy?
If you are sure that this is a specific reaction to the coolant, it would be best for him to use a protective barrier on the skin area/s exposed, i.e. for the hands/arms: disposable latex gloves (elbow length if necessary);

if it is an allergic reaction, this should treat and then reduce the symptoms.

If he does this and the symptoms persist, he should see his doctor or dermatologist.

Good luck.

Are there any Home remedies for skin condition associated w/allergy?
Alright, so let's look at this more closely. What it really sounds like you're asking is "Is there a natural remedy my husband can take that will make his body's wise symptoms go completely away...?" Yeah. There is: Stop exposing your sacred, delicate and extremely fragile skin to chemicals that are literally eating that skin alive, got it? That or wear gloves when dealing w/ the chemicals, or better yet, get a new job, one where you're not exposed to poisons. Seems like a no brainer to me.

On a slightly nicer note: Bach Flower Rescue Remedy Cream works wonders for almost any skin eruption. Aloe gel will help too, as will homeopathic sulfur, usually, especially if he is one who "picks" at himself. Your asking for a "cure", when he's just going to expose himself to the same stuff over and over again, is rather a ridiculous waste of all our times and energies, is it not? Imagine, for a moment, what all those fumes are doing to his lungs, kidneys and liver...Rather than trying to "shut his skin up" and suppress its message, isn't it really, truly time to find another way to earn money, besides doing something that will literally kill him? And here's another clue, if his hands are that much of a wreck, I can pretty much guarantee you he isn't following OSHA safety protocols and guidelines for handling toxic substances...time to wake up, kids.
Reply:Try rubbing his skin with a chammomile tea bag
Reply:There are no home remedies for situations like this. The best remedy probably is for your husband to change his job. Most allergies disappear once you stay away from the causative agent.
Reply:sounds like he has a reaction to glycol or other cutting fluids/oils,assuming that is what they are using as coolants.he should check with the epa safety person at the plant.of course if it is a small operation then he may find no help.constant exposure even with treatment is not going to work.change coolants or.........

Does anybody have info on Self-Barbering/Kitty Skin Allergies?

Hello! My Darryl-kitty developed food allergies. I took her to the vet. The vet gave her a series of cortisone shots, some anti-biotics and presribed Hills Kitty Allergy Food. Her scabs cleared up really well. However, there is one patch on the back of her neck btwn her shoulder blades that she continues to self-barber. The patch is down to her skin and the fur around the patch is short and broken. I notcied a small lesion there, too (but it's nothing scabby or open, as her previous lesions were). Any suggestions?

Does anybody have info on Self-Barbering/Kitty Skin Allergies?
Vet food is good to help diagnose things, but is expensive and not always the best option. I agree with the other poster who said to check the ingredients and find a food that doesn't have corn. "Natural" or "Holistic" foods are more expensive than "commerical" ones, but are worth every penny. Try to stay away from the Walmart-available foods which claim to be "natural". Check the ingredients; if they contain things that you wouldn't eat, then your probably don't want to feed it to your cat (chemicals, of course, you might not want to eat chicken fat but that doesn't mean it's bad for your cat).

One of my kitties (allergies or IBS) is switching to the (Dick Van Patten's) Natural Balance Venison %26amp; Pea and he loves it. It's also lower in fat that most vet foods, which is good, as too much fat in a cat's diet can make them obese. I also recommend Eagle Pack foods, but be sure you read the ingredients. Their Duck %26amp; Oatmeal is good for allergies.

If you kitty is still itching even after you're on an allergy food, you need to try something else. However, make sure that you are with one food for at least 8 weeks to settle the immune system and make sure that it's not just the stress from changing foods that is causing the allergies.

Make sure you're not giving your kitty any treats that aren't the same protein %26amp; carbohydrate as the food you're feeding. He might be allergic to something in the treats--they're usually just junk food anyways. Give a spoonful of canned food (same as dry if you feed dry) as a treat, or make your own from ingredients you know he can eat.

You might want to check with your vet to make sure the current patch isn't ringworm or an unrelated skin disease, and is a result of the allergies. Have them do a skin scraping (this doesn't hurt) to rule out skin diseases. While you're there, you can ask for a cortisone cream to help with the itch, or you can try using some of the "bitter apple" type sprays to keep him from bothering it while it heals.

You may also want to find a holistic pet store in your area and ask them what sort of essential oils you can give to a cat to help with allergies, worms, skin parasites, etc. If you have one in your area, Pet Planet or Happy Tails are 2 excellent sources.

Good luck!
Reply:What are the other foods your cat has had? There are premium foods that have a single protein source (chicken and rice, venison and pea) and that is best for cats.

Read the label on your bag of Hill's. Is there any corn in it? Corn is a known cat and dog allergen. How many protein sources are in it, combinations of meats?

Use CA Natural for the chicken and rice. Natural Balance for the venison and pea. I believe NB also has a duck and something. My cats like MB's dry and canned foods.

Any ideas about strange dime sized spots on my skin since I began allergy shots.?

I moved to the Ohio valley about eight months ago. I immediately began suffering severe allergies and had to start shots and a slew of medications. Perhaps it is unrelated, but I started getting flat, shiny and perfectly round spots near the injection sites. They are only slightly raised and look like bruises. At first I was terrified that I had ringworm, but it never developed the distinctive ring. The allergist thinks it may be excema, but it usually does not itch. Today I saw one on my thigh, near my knee. Eventually the others faded. I actually have been working so much that I didn't have time to schedule with a dermatologist. Now, I am out of work for the summer, so I plan to, but I wonder if anyone has any ideas in the meantime. Thanks.

Any ideas about strange dime sized spots on my skin since I began allergy shots.?
sounds like excema. it looks really similar to ringworm. its just dry flaky skin. with all of your allergies and your new shots and you moving to another place with a different climate its totally possible that your skin is irritated.

Cat has baldness, red flakey skin, what could his allergy be? On steroids; is there complimentary treatment?

For a few years my mother's cat has gradually been losing its fur. At first we didn't realise. Now he has a red flakey patch on his side around his hip and thigh area. He is going bald there but I think that might be because he licks it so much; I have seen him washing it quite vigorously, and it's always damp from drool. He does not like to be touched there.

In his ear he has a raised red area, circular, about 1cm radius, as well as redness around the eyes. The vet took a sample from the ear irritation and it wasn't ringworm or anything.

He gets steroids daily. My mother reckons that this helps but it's still pretty bad. She also sometimes puts some sudocrem on the ear. She believes the drugs cause fur yellowing. His fur is generally thin and dull.

What could he be allergic to? Mum seems to think it's because of his micro-chipping but I am not convinced. Could it be household cleaner? What could be some good things to put on the ear and side, and to brighten his fur?

Thanks

Cat has baldness, red flakey skin, what could his allergy be? On steroids; is there complimentary treatment?
My cat started losing fur in spots and getting red scabby splotches, so I changed his food and that helped...
Reply:feed him eggs, this will brighten the coat. I would get a second opinion on the ringworm thing. That causes irritation, redness and hair loss.
Reply:Why hasn't the vet done an allergy test to see if the cat does have allergies? And, I would get the cats thyroid checked...it's often called a T4 blood test.
Reply:Could be fleas, food allergy, underlying disease? They do make steroid shots that you can get every 4-6 weeks instead of pills. Is his fur yellow, or is it his skin underneath. If it's his skin have him seen at the vet. It would be worth running bloodwork on this pet to check for an underlying disease. When cats are sick they tend not to care for their coat well. How old is the cat? Age can play a big part as well. To rule out food you may want to try a sensitive skin brand (Purina pro plan or science diet) or a limited ingredients diet (Purina salmon and brown rice for example). Purina is great for a nice shiny coat and you can also try derm caps from your pet store. it's omega 3 fatty acids very good for the coat. Likelihood is the micro chipping did not cause the allergy.
Reply:Does your mom use any products to freshen or clean her carpets? My roommate's cat had this same problem and we finally figured out the Arm and Hammer powder stuff you sprinkle on the carpet was irritating her skin.

Also fabric softeners can irritate a cat's skin.
Reply:Have you had the cat to a vet, an animal doctor. Where did you get the steroids from Your cat has a hormonal problem more so if it is a male if he has been neutered young then this does happen

your cat also could have mange, like scabies in humans Once again you should have vet advice

It can be cured The ear of a cat is very delicate and sensitive this also could be mange No wonder cat does not like it touched

He is washing himself frequently because the area affected is hot and irritating

The eyes of cats are very delicate Has the cat fleas?

The mange mite that causes mange is under the skin, where eggs are laid , hatch and then feed on the blood and any waste from them
Reply:He could be allergic to the dry food if you feed that. Check out www.veterinarysecretsrevealed.com. There is an elimination diet listed somewhere in there. It takes about 12 weeks to tell what ingredient he is allergic to but at least you'll know if it's the food.

Can exercising worsen the itching when you have skin allergies caused by perfume?

before, i had a medical check-up, the doctor diagnosed it as fungus but the said fungus was recurring. i later found out that it isn't fungus but skin allergy. the affected area is very itchy and before i couldn't sleep because of severe itchiness. right now, it is still itchy but i won't touch it because it will just effect to sleepless nights because of itchiness. the doctor said before that I am not allowed to perspire because it will just trigger the itchiness more but that was the same doctor who diagnosed me with fungus "infection"%26lt;-i'm not sure with this term. anyway, does this perspiring also applies to skin allergies?

Can exercising worsen the itching when you have skin allergies caused by perfume?
Skin contact with perfumes can cause a reaction like a rash. Especially when exposed to the sun. When you sweat the pores on the skin open wider and this causes more irritation. So any sweating will cause more discomfort.

Avoid using any type of cologne until the rash disappears completely. Then to avoid recurrence spray the air at clothing level and step into the cologne. This will give you the cologne scent yet, not irritate the skin.

I also have a problem with colognes. Expensive or cheap I will break out wherever the cologne touches my skin. I use the walk through spray application and do not have a problem.
Reply:Thank you! Report It

Reply:Probably, as we sweat when we exercise which would be aggravating your skin further.
Reply:Yes, even for a skin allergy perspiring will irritate the area causing it to itch more. Even something like a misquito bite will become irritated by perspiration.
Reply:Logically, I would think that it would indeed worsen the problem because when you sweat and stuff, it opens your pores up wider, which would make the perfume seep further into your skin. But if you are allergic to perfumes, can't you just switch to hypo-allergenic products? Then you could have some itch-free exercise and not have to worry about it.
Reply:YES.. i got a perm about 10 years ago and had a severe reaction. Ever since then, i get hives and have very sensitve skin to almost everything. Zyrtec really helps me with the itchiness. But I noticed several years ago that when I perspire I break out worse. My doc told me that since my skin is so sensitive i break out from my own sweat. I cant even go for a long walk because the itching is so intense. The only thing that relieves it is a cool shower to wash off all the sweat and after that I am fine. So, Yes, you can definetley develop allergies to your sweat.
Reply:I'm not a doctor, or an expert, but the principle sounds reasonable to me. When you excercise or sweat, your pores are open. If you are reacting to a perfume or fragrance such as the ones added to deodorants and body sprays, the irritant could get into the open pore and have an extra-irritaing effect.

Food Allergy. Itchy Red/hot/dry Skin. Solutions?

My girlfriend is suffering from a Food Allergy for milk products, beef and sea food. Also spicy food.

She is a beautiful girl but she suffers a lot from this allergy. Get's this Allergy at least once a week.

All the food she likes is not good for her.

Sometimes in sleep she end up scratching herself until it's bleeding. Applying a lot of moisturising cream helps to get rid of dryness.

Sometimes she starts to hate herself and go crazy.

Still she's my beautiful Angel!

Any solution for this?

We live in Australia

Many Thanks.

Food Allergy. Itchy Red/hot/dry Skin. Solutions?
I suffer from allergies and occasionally end up with hives. Try Benadryl or another antihistamine and it should relieve the itchiness.
Reply:She needs to go to a doctor and find out exactly what foods are setting off the allergy and then STOP EATING THEM. Yes it can be hard but a lot of people have specific nutritional needs and have to stay away from things they like. Allergies get worse with repeated exposure to the offending substance, not better, and anaphylactic shock can be fatal.
Reply:Has she tried taking benedryl on the days this is happening? I have an allergy to ibuprofen.... when I accidently take something with it in it benedryl usually always counteracts it.
Reply:Visit the site http://beautycare4all.blogspot.com/ . I hope it will help you. It has home remedies on it.

You can call around and see if anyone has it or if you send me your address I'll send you some to try. lynarts@flash.net, or betterhealth@flash.net.
Reply:me too i live in beautiful oz. she needs to go to a skin specialist who will give her some cortisone cream. and she will have to take the time to try different foods to see which ones to avoid ,the doctor may also give her a shot on a regular basis to alleviate the symptoms .you're a great guy because you care so much about her

When a doctor performs a skin panel test for allergies, does this test include a test for shellfish allergy?

I had a heap of skin tests late August of this year.

Here is what is on the skin test sheet, (Australian test) but I would imagine they would be very simular.

Pollens

Dusts

Fungi's

Foods

Animals

Insects

I will only put what is on the food list.

Foods;

Milk (cow)

Egg Alb

Egg Yolk

Wheat Fl

Apple

Banana

Bean (Soya)

Beef

Carrot

Cocoa

Cray / fish

Fowl

Honey

Lamb

Onion

Orange

Pea

Peanut

Pineapple

Pork

Potato

Tomato

Walnut

Whiting

Yeast (Bakers)

Yeast (Brewers)

Saline

Histamine

Make sure you have some anti-histamines with you (you can take them when they completed all the tests), as my arm was a mass of itchy welts, some of which melded together.

Good luck

When a doctor performs a skin panel test for allergies, does this test include a test for shellfish allergy?
Yes. There will be nearly 100 unique test areas
Reply:no that is mainly for things that are airborn and the like i believe that that test is done by blood test i know that is how they found my cashew allergy
Reply:usually the first test performed is the basic test , mold, pollen, dog dander, etc. unless youv'e never showed any signs of anything else then the allergists might jump right to what your having problems with. however, that is not normally performed until further visits seek specialists
Reply:the allergy test can be up to 40 different items. to inclube shell fish. What they will do is stick your back enough to break the skin ...it doesn't hurt and then they put droplets of different substances on the broken skin... grass, weeds, pet hair, horse hair, eggs, etc when your back gets a little whelp in the area they measure it and then they tell you what your allergic to.
Reply:When I had it done the dermatologist basically picked and chose what he wanted to test me for, so if you're worried about it just ask and they probably can.
Reply:unless they know you possibly have a problem with that. otherwise, you may tell the dr u wnna be tested
Reply:If you are tested for food allergies too then it should include shellfish.

PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

12 yr old feline with a skin problem ..(bad) flea bite allergy please help?
Do you see fleas on her? It could be a bacterial infection, yeast, mange, ringworm...to name a few. It also could be flea allergy dermatitis if she had a bad infestation. She could also have something else wrong that is causing immune suppression allowing for secondary infections to occur.

Do you have money for at least a office visit? (Usually $25-$45). Call all the local Vet's and get quotes for office visits. Make an appt @ the cheapest one. Let them examine her, they may find the culprit and send you home with antibiotics, it may be something as simple as that. If they need to do more tests (skin scraping, fungal cultures, blood work etc) ask for a detailed estimate and at that time ask if you can make payments.

If you already have a Vet that you've been to before, they may be a little more willing to make payment arrangements for you.

You can also try calling local rescue groups (not the humane society, animal control etc) small local groups (you can do a search on petfinder for local groups) and ask for some assistance. Most small groups have a Vet that they take their rescues to for reduced fees. They may allow you to take your cat to their Vet under their account and you will pay reduced fees for services.

If all else fails, you will need to give her to someone who can get her some treatment, as sad and heartbreaking as that will be.

Good luck!
Reply:Animal Umbrella in Somerville may be able to help you. I believe they have access to vets who donate or pro rate their bills when necessary.

Also, Chelsea Animal Clinic is very reasonable and probably would be willing to work with you.

I know this isn't that near Winchendon, but it's the only area that I know. I hope this helps.

As a last resort, you could call and talk with someone at North Shore Animal Shelter in Salem.
Reply:Flea allergies are not too expensive to treat. You just need flea treatments from a vet like Frontline Plus and housesprays - if she's in that bad a shape a steroid shot for temporary relief is also in order.

Ring around vets to see what they can offer you - a bit unlikely anyone on here from your area will post, so get your answers by just phoning the vets in your area.

Natural remedies for Dog skin allergies.?

He's a St. Bernard and has skin allergies. We've taken him to the vet and had all kinds of tests run. The outcome is just that he has allergies. We've tried many thing, and I am tired of giving him high doses of allergy medications and steroids. I would like to know of some topical/natural things I can try to relieve his itching. I've heard essential oils and such work wonders. Also, I would need dosages/instructions for him. He's 150 lbs, and has long fur.

Natural remedies for Dog skin allergies.?
Have you tried changing his diet? He could be lacking some essential oils. My dog was always itchy and dry when he was on Natural Choice, several weeks after I switched him to Solid Gold the itching went away and his skin greatly improved. You can also add Canola oil to his diet (1T a day) and this should also help his coat.

Pit bull skin allergies?
First thing to suspect is his food. Dogs with allergies shouldn't eat corn, soy or wheat..

Second common cause is flea allergy. If your dog isn't eating those items, or is flea free, then it is likely environmental, and caused by pollen or household cleaners, lawn spray, etc..

this is a great sup[lement to help a dog deal better with allergies%26gt; http://springtimeinc.com/product/88/2 as it strengthens his immune system.
Reply:My dog has serious food allergies. I give him Benedryl (over the counter) 75mg to easy his pain and inflammation. I'm not too thrilled with any kind of steroids and that stuff worked. My vet turned me on to it. Hope this helps!! Oh, and it's cortisone. Good luck!! DOGS RULE!!
Reply:my son has 2 pits and one of them had the same problem, he took him to the vet and was told that the pit was alergic to rice and other grains. so my son put both dogs on a diet of a food called science diet, they have had no problems since
Reply:There are a few different medications on the market at the moment. 1 that we have had the most success with at my work (I am a vet nurse) is Atopica. It is a twice daily tablet but they are VERY expensive. Regular hydrobaths with medicated shampoo is another way to keep ontop of the allergy but will never cure it. Cortisone has a fairly high success rate but you need the correct dosage and even just missing one tablet can make them flare up again. Cortisone also isn't very good as a long term treatment. I would suggest taking him to a vet that has specialty training in dermatology. They can do skin scraping and check for different yeats and pyoderma and give you the right medication to help treat him. No matter what you do though it is going to be something you are going to have to treat for life as there is no "cure" for skin problems...only treatment to stop the majority of flare ups
Reply:Hi There,

I can sympathize with you, one of our dogs as chewed her belly, legs, chest, ears, snout all free of hair we joke saying that she's a chihuahua that is trying to be a Mexican hairless, but really it is VERY sad. It constant itchy drives her and us nuts, and I've lots track of the vet visits....everything from antibiotics (she gets infected too) to ointments to creams to bathes with SelsunBlue shampoo, flea and parasite control you name it. Vet tells us last time ---last resort Predisone----which we REALLY don't want to use because of other health problems she has could be excerbated.

Then about 3 weeks it dawned on me, is she allergic to grain??!!! For a long shot I thought i give it a try and searched high and low for canned or dry dog food with out ANY grain. well I found some (and she likes it too big bonus) and we have been giving it to her now for 2 weeks (even pure 100% liver treats and Absloutely NO cat food ---little sneak).

I bet you couldn't guess what has happened????

Thats right she seems to be healing, the itching is subsiding still some but way less, her sores are healing, and she is HAPPY! again. Yeah!!!!!

So I guess my point is could it be something like that???

With soooo many kids with crazy allergies these days, why

would it be any different for dogs???

I figured there was no harm in trying, and yes the food costs more BUT hey, look how much I've spent on all the vet bills and meds, not to mention sleepless, itch filled nights.

I sure hope that this might help you, I'd look at your doggies

food, maybe try an elimination diet, I had a friend whose Afghan could only eat sweet potatoes and salmon or he got a ear infection. I know alot of people object to giving Bully breeds raw meat, but maybe you could try it chopped up with

sweet potatoes, just to see.

Wouldn't it be Awesome if it was just something like that!!!!

Good Luck to you...I'd be curious to know

And give that pittie a good belly rub from me (I've a total soft spot for them, I used to work with so many of them at the local shelter...they were always some of my all time favs...the little goofballs.

Oh yeah the type of food I found her is called "GO! grain free"

there is also a First Mates, and some Wellness has no grains, sorry to the responses above but:

1) dogs can be allergic to WAY more things then just soy, wheat, corn, fleas, and the environment but those are the majors.

2) Science Diet DOES have grains both in can and dry--thats what Pepper was on prior to GO! and it still did it. When I looked for Grain free I looked for totally Grain-Free no corn, oats, oatmeal, barley, soy, wheat, bran, quinoa, spelt etc etc .
Reply:I know what you are talking about i have been breeding and owned many who have had this problem. Well for starters add some cod oil in their food. use some vet tabs (NuVet.com) rub the rash with some vitamin-e oil and let it sit there for 10-15 min with out him itching it. make sure you do that for atleast 2 months after it has cleared up!! any issues or anymore ?'s email me i have been at this for awhile and think i can help.
Reply:1. Change foods. Food is the cause of most allergies.

Try Innova Evo, it's grain and corn free and is low allergen.

2. Weekly baths in medicated shampoo (oatmeal or tea tree oil) can help greatly with allergies.

3. Bag Balm works wonders on a variety of issues. It is a lightly medicated soothing balm that was originally made for cow udders, but it is useful for virtually anything that is dry and sore.

German Shepherd Skin Allergies?

I have a 7-year old german shepherd that has been suffering with skin allergies for the majority of her life. She received an allergy test a little while back and, to our chagrin, is allergic to a lot of stuff (bluegrass, alder, ash, maple, elm, housedust, mites, rabbit, poultry mix, lamb, barley, etc). She was put on a special diet (Wellness food's "Simply Food Solutions-Duck Formula"), and takes keflex (500 mg) to alleviate her constant itching. She gets weekly medicated baths as well. Nothing seems to work; she is constantly itching and gnawing at herself. The poor thing barely has fur anymore! Does anyone have any suggestions?

German Shepherd Skin Allergies?
Make sure she is also completely flea-free!

Our SOP is a short course of corticosteroids (prednisone) and cephalexin to alleviate the skin infection and inflammation, to allow her a break from the itch and the skin to heal.

Next I would consult with your vet about different options for therapy. Have you tried high dose antihistamines? (Benedryl, loratadine, etc) There is also another heavy-hitter in immune suppression in the class of keflex called cyclosporine, we have great success with it in our severe allergy patients. If your vet seems stumped, or unwilling to pursue other possibilities, I would ask for a referral to a dermatology specialist.

Good luck, don't give up! Keep up the weekly bathing, make sure she is parasite free, and keep trying!
Reply:make her food yourself, do as much research on natural organic diet for dogs, even that B.A.R.F. raw meat diet....have you tried instead of medicated bath using Aveeno oatmeal products?? get the baby bath to try first. there is regular and milk bath....even , i know this sounds silly, nut get the baby aveeno buttcream put it on an area sh cannot lick off, and see if it will help calm any redness or irritation. its worth a try. and a lot cheaper too...there is one other thing.... it is called bag balm. looks like vaseline, smells but not too much. farmers use it on cows and every other animal, i have used it on dog and cat paws chapped from winter snow and salt. hard to find but it worked. it is in a green square tin. was less then 10 bucks i think, lasts forever...
Reply:I have heard that WALTHAMS SENSITIVITY CONTROL food is very good for allergies OR HILLS SCIENCE PLAN Canine D/d, it is an egg and rice based food, it is a matter of trying different foods and combo's every 6 months to see what helps, also try MALASEB ANTBACTERIAL / ANTIFUNGAL SHAMPOO, i actually have not come across a skin condition that this shampoo cannot help with, ask your vet for a distributor where you live.

Vet Nurse.
Reply:Bath her daily. Shave her fur. Expose her skin to heat so that most germs die. Keep her dry. Give her natural foods like real bones. Exercise. Play with her.
Reply:take her cow's milk and replace with soya milk if you want to give her some " milk ".

No chicken meat or eggs.

wash with mild Esentham soap to alleviate the itchings . bath her with mild baby soap. I find the Tolly joy brand of baby soap best.

leaves a fresh after bath scent
Reply:Have you talked to your vet about allergen injections? There is a company that makes an allergen injection specific to your pet and you give it weekly or every other week as a simple injection under the skin. It works well for some dogs with severe allergies and since you already know what she is allergic to it wouldn't take much more to get the allergen made up. Also, I would consider adding vitamin E and omega fatty acids to her food as well. You can use the products found at human drug/health stores or you could try one of the veterinary products (my vet sells one called EFA-caps and usually recommends it for people whose dogs have allergies in addition to other therapies).

How does seafoods like lobster, crab and squid can cause food allergy (e.g. skin swelling and itchiness)?

what is an allergy and how it happens. an allergic reaction occur against a polypeptide or a protein inside the body in which the immune system consider this organ as foreign. hence when we eat something that cause food allergy, it is the product of digestion absorbed at the level of the samll intestine that cause this allergic reaction. so when your digestive enzymes breaks down the food into smaller particles, these small particls will cause this allergic reaction

How does seafoods like lobster, crab and squid can cause food allergy (e.g. skin swelling and itchiness)?
The iodine.
Reply:It is the salt water and the idodine that causes an allergic reaction.
Reply:The Iodine in it what I am allergic too.

I cannot have topical iodine either.
Reply:they contain iodine, very reactive substance, alot of people can't take it, ie contrast studies like cat scans use it, itchiness and swelling first step, then each reaction gets worse until breathing can be affected, drugs needed, epinephrine, ect.. watch out!
Reply:Normally you are born with it.
Reply:an allergy is your body being oversensitive to something. In reality you could become allergic to anything. Sometimes its from overexposure, sometimes its genetics, and sometimes it just happens.
Reply:i don't eat fish
Reply:well, u can b allergic 2 almost anything... i guess it just depends what specific thing it is
Reply:the protein is recognized by your body's immune system by binding to receptors and is mistaken for an antigenic or harmful compound. the body then mounts an immune response, many times an inflammatory one that is caused by the release of histamine from the granulocytes in the skin- the histamine causes redness, swelling and itching.
Reply:I believe it's the protein....it's a new large body bandage that the military uses with shellfish in it and they were saying that if u r allergic to shellfish don't worry because they take the protein that causes allergic reactions out.....
Reply:Any allergy is an allergen that causes one's immune system to behave abnormally.
Reply:That's something I'd like to know..
Reply:Yea it does because its shell fish,But i never knew that squid caused food allergy.Thank god i can eat all of it.
Reply:They don't cause allergy. Only people are allergic to them. Its inborn and some are genetic.
Reply:Its whatever is in it. Not everyone is allergic to these foods, but everyones different.
Reply:yes, and seafood allergies are some of the most deadliest allergies to have, keep benadryl on you at all times.
Reply:It may not be the iodine. You can be allergic to the protein, causing an inappropriate immune reaction (which is what allergy is.) I'm allergic to fish and CAN have topical iodine and iodine dye. The itchiness and other symptoms are from the release of histamine from your immune system.

Skin allergies?

I've had a strange skin allergy for about a year. All of a sudden it pooped up outta nowhere. I thought it was maybe due to stress but I don't think it is since I'm not stressed anymore and it's still there. It comes up in wierd bumps. I thought it was maybe eczema...can it just pop up outta nowhere? I've tried every anti itch lotion known to man, and the stuff the dermatologist gave me didn't work. Any suggestions? Hypnosis? Acupuncture?

Skin allergies?
go to your dermatologist again. they can provide a lotion and a cream for it (some has steroid in them, potent stuff but it works).

try cetaphil for soap too. there are some stuff in regular soaps that are irritant, specially with eczema.

bad news is, once you have it, it never goes away. it'll react when weather changes, stress in life, and just because.

i suffer it. i was told by my derma that there's no cure for it yet, as of now.
Reply:Have you tried having sex?
Reply:This happened to me in collage, out of the blue. Severe eczema. I finally tried a steriod and cortisone mix my doctor prescribed me and it was a miracle, it worked. Prednasone will help but it's not good to be on it long term. Please see an allergist, best way to go.
Reply:don't treat the symptoms, find the cause. consider it may be a food allergy. use process of elimination, start with the more common allergens: milk, gluten, nuts. choose one, eliminate it from your diet for several weeks, note the results. gluten is highly allergenic, there is too much in everyday diets and people can develop intolerance to it. it is also the most difficult to isolate, eliminate and identify. see Celiac disease on the web. look for other symptoms associated with gluten allergies.
Reply:There's a chance you now have skin allergy, and for first thing, you can ask around the elders of your family; it's not something so bad, they talk about it to you. Next, if that doesn't get you information, try first, Over-The-Counter Loratadine 10mg, cheap, and when that fails your expectation, try Desloratadine, which is Clarinex , and then try, not cheap, Allegra 120. If your skin is not only itching but breaks into a rash there are more possibilities, all must be tried until you get it right or simply outgrow the problem. If you are ready for the real battle, visit an allergy-specialist it may be found you need a battery of shots for a year or so and the problem should go away for at least some years. Nearly all of us have allergies to some degree.

My cat has severe skin allergies, what can I use to fix them?

I took her to the vet and he said it was skin allergies. He told me that it is not worth the money to see what she is allergic to. Her skin is very scabby and her hair is falling out. She is on flea medication, so I know it is not a flea allergy. I have racked my brain trying to figure out what it could be from. I have not changed her food, litter, etc. Anyone know of any other common allergies for cats and any OTC medications I could use to help alleviate her symptoms?

My cat has severe skin allergies, what can I use to fix them?
Hi there...many cats will develop allergies as a result of the food even if they have been eating it for awhile. Switching to a hypogenic friendly food such as lamb and rice or a higher quality product may help if in fact it is a food allergy. It takes about 2 months on this strict diet to see if there's any improvement.

Most cat food available on the market is sub-standard even though they spend a considerable amount of money on advertising. The leading ingredients which cause problems for cats contain the ingredients, corn, corn meal or soy. These particular carbohydrates have no nutritional value and are used to help the dry kibble bind together so they will not crumble as well as it helps to keep production costs low.

There are higher premium quality foods generally found at smaller specialty pet stores, which also contains essential quality nutrients and no byproducts such as:

Innova EVO: http://www.naturapet.com/display.php?d=p...

California Natural: http://www.naturapet.com/display.php?d=p...

Nature's Variety Prairie: http://www.naturesvariety.com/content.la...

Wellness: http://www.oldmotherhubbard.com/cats/wel...

Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul: http://www.chickensoupforthepetloverssou...

If/when considering to change food brands/type suddenly with any cat will cause stomach distress as well as diarrhea in cats. You will need to gradually change her food to the new brand over a course of several weeks. How you do this is to take 3/4 of the old food and mix it together with 1/4 of the new food for one week. Then 1/2 of the new with 1/2 of the old for another week. Finally, 3/4 of the new food mixed with 1/4 of the old for a week before finally 100% of the new food. Please keep in mind that some cats absolutely just don't like some brands of foods either so you may need to consider another brand and then again gradually mix the old kind with the new one to help her adjust. It just cannot be done any other way without making the cat very sick.

Again if it is in fact food allergies you will see the results once your cat has switched completely to the new food and then count two months after that time.

Some additional helpful remedies that may work is to add 1/4 teaspoon of cod-liver oil/salmon oil into the diet every other day. It tends to help with sensitive skin. (See http://www.onlynaturalpet.com/products/N... )
Reply:i would take her to a vet that would be a little more caring and get a 2nd opinion maybe it is the soap that you wash your laundry in if she lays on your bed and you hold her then the soap could be irritating her...
Reply:Take her to another vet for a second opinion. Have some blood work done to rule out disease. Change her food (slowly!!) to a premium food, not made of the usual fish, chicken, etc or go all natural like from a health food store. As for the little, try shredded paper or peletized paper litter (frequently used for newly de-clawed cats / kittens) bought from the pet store to eliminate the possibility of the allergy coming from the dusty litter. Good luck.
Reply:PetGuard makes garlic and brewers yeast tablets. Cats think they are treats and they really help alot with skin conditions like you've described. As a bonus it keeps fleas and ticks away and is good for their heart and immune system. A little garlic breath, but cats have stinky breath anyways. Healthfood stores carry them as well as herbal flea collars which also work quite well without poisoning your cat like normal flea collars do. I've used them for years and they work very well. Here's their web addy

http://www.petguard.com/main/templates2/...

then click the word "suppliments"
Reply:I also think a second opinion is necessary. Is there a vet school nearby? Call ahead and ask if the vet has any experience treating allergic cats.

what I think they do is put the cat on some food she's never eaten before like rabbit or lamb and see if that clears it up.

This food may be expensive compared to regular supermarket chow but I don't know how much more. I've never heard of a cat being allergic to litter.

Does she go out. She might have got in some fertilizer or weed killer. Start keeping her in.

Skin allergies????????????????

So starting in november of 2005 I started getting this skin allergy. It starts out looking like a mosquito bite but if i scratched more or didnt take anything for it like benadryl it could swell up. it can be 8 inches in diameter and swell upward a little. And is incredibly ithcy probably worse then anything your've experienced. ive been to the allergy docotor and they did all these test but they were all negative. the only thing he could do was give me medicaine. So a little after it started it doesnt get that big and i think its because i can control it a little. but i always have bumps all over. they hardly ever get big anymore. and sometimes its worse then other times. its been non stop since 2005. ive done a food diary and tried to think of anything it could be but still have no idea. has anyone ever had this problem???

Skin allergies????????????????
What did the doctor say? Is it eczema that you are sufffering or some other skin disorder? You need to know the exact skin condition so that you can take the appropriate action.

Your allergens can be food, dust mites, chemical sensitivity to products, pollen, cat just about anything. Your tests have to be pretty extensive to check for a wide range. Of course, it helps if you do observe certain reactions. Reading more about possible allergens can also help you be more alert if you find yourself exposed to a specific one.
Reply:hmm.. I would think it would be either some kind of food allergy, or maybe an allergy to soap. Have you tried changing your laundry soap? Sometimes that can be the cause. Other then that, I have no idea!! Maybe it's a different type of skin condition. Have you been to just a dermatologist?

Are skin allergies contagious?

My friend soffers from skin allergy, it appears on his skin when he sweat alot, when the climate is too hot, etc. But i want to know if i can get infected if i touch his skin%26gt;

Are skin allergies contagious?
Nope.

Allergies are not contagious. They are the person's immune systerm itself reacting to something it doesn't like. Its very specific to each person.
Reply:No, allergies are not contagious. They are a body's specific reaction to a specific allergen source, and everyone reacts differently to them.
Reply:depends... but what your talking about i'm not sure

Does anyone with food allergies get itchy skin on the undersides of arms and legs? What is your allergy?
Allergies are usually seen as itches and discoloration to upset in the organs function. Its something very specific case to case so you must get a test on yourself for correct diagnosis
Reply:im not allergic to food but i am alergic to meatle and yes and my skin turns green where ever the metal tuched
Reply:Eggs
Reply:You may not even have a food allergy. You could be allergic to your laundry detergent.
Reply:well when i eat some foods i get hives and my skin itches like that so you might have hives.
Reply:It oculd be food allergy but it could also be a reaciton to laundry detergent or fabric softener. We have a lot of trouble with that in the family. The spots affected are the same - where sweat accumulates in the body folds -armpits,elbows, knees etc.

Can (or do) allergy shots dry your skin?

I started taking allergy shots about two months ago, and just recently--within the last week or so--I noticed that my face is very dry and "tight" feeling. I know that allergy pills (Benadryl in particular) can dry out the body, but can shots do the same thing? Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Can (or do) allergy shots dry your skin?
The allergy shots that I take are not medicine, but small amounts of the things I am allergic to to desensitize my body to them. These wouldn't or shouldn't have the same effect as antihistamines like Benadryl. Ask the doctor or nurse at your allergy office. The only time my face feels dry and tight is in the winter (in Ohio) when the humidity is very low. Is the humidity really low lately where you live? Are you using something different to clean your face? If you have allergies, there are always new things to get allergic to, unfortunately. So the cleanser you used on your face that used to be fine may now be causing a problem. When my son was a teenager, he bought some good ol' Noxzema for his face and immediately complained about it burning. His younger sister tried it and also complained. I washed my face with it (ah, it brought back memories of my youth...) and while the menthol in it was tingly, as soon as I rinsed and dried my face, it felt fine. I asked my kids if their faces were still burning, and they said they were, so I told them not to use it any more (duh.). The next time we were at the store, we found some Noxzema for sensitive skin that advertised it was Phenol-Free. Phenol was one of the chemicals my son had tested positive for, and obviously his sister was too, but not me.

You really have to put on your detective hat when you have allergies and sensitivities. Good luck!

Edit: As the other answerer said, it could also be that your system is just a little bit extra reactionary because of the shots, and that's why your usual cleanser might be irritating you.
Reply:yes, they can. the effect of the shots changes from person to person, but it does irritate the skin, because you getting an injection of something you're allergic to.

I have very sensitive skin, even waxing makes allergy. How can i change my facial hairs into skin colour?

how can i get a clear skin

I have very sensitive skin, even waxing makes allergy. How can i change my facial hairs into skin colour?
you cant, you could try laser hair removal.
Reply:Actually, m nt interested in all these things bt I have seen people applying bleach cream on their body hair to bring them in tone with their skin.
Reply:bleach your hair... facial bleach
Reply:Hi Deepa

Do you have lots of Hair on your face, which are bit thick and coarse hair,If so then only you need to wax the face. You can go to a good beauty parlour. Ask her first to do a patch test on your face with a good bleach cream. If you do not get any irritation or reaction on your face after 24 hours. You can ask her to bleach your face using a good bleach cream available in the market-Egg Jolen,Fem etc.She will know which is the lattest and a better product for your skin.Take some guidelines from her also.

Reply:Apply a paste of turmeric powder on the face and leave it for half an hour before taking your daily bath. Also use the paste of turmeric instead of soap on the entire body and rinse thoroughly with water. You facial and body hair should stop growing further.
Reply:You could buy one of those personal groomers that trim really close to the skin surface, but they do not irritate the skin in any way. Then you can gently trim the hair off without wax/dyes.

A skin condition or an allergy?

Every summer when it is really humid out, my mom and I will get itchy bumps (hives) on the tops of our hands and between our knuckles. It started when I was around 6. We have gone to a pediatrician, an allergy doctor, and a dermatologist and they weren't sure either. They just prescribed us hydrocortizone, but too much can cause blood poisoning and I get nervous when I use it. Do you know what this is and what I can do about it?

A skin condition or an allergy?
its caused probably through weather changes.
Reply:Since it happens in the summer, it could be any number of things that are in the air during the summer time- including heat and humidity itself, in some extremely rare cases.

Try to find out what you're allergic to, and either get it out of your environment or- as a last resort- move. You and your mom do both sound miserable.

Good luck!
Reply:If it happens in the summer, it's probably an allergic reaction to a certain plant or pollen. I used to get it all the time when I was younger and still do to a point. I got allergy testing done and found out that I'm allergic to 50% of the most common weeds in my area! I didn't like using hydrocortisone either. I found that if you mix two drops of lavender essential oil (assuming you're not allergic to it!) to ten parts witch hazel (you can buy it at walgreens) and apply it to the rash, it helps. Other than that, I just have to suffer through the summer with Benadryl! I hope you find something to help you!

Itching Skin- Skin Condition or Plain Allergy?

About 3 years ago, I started noticing that my arms, back and chest would uncontrollably itch, and the coldest possible shower is the only thing that relieves.

The feeling is as though I am lightly being poked all over, it feels very localised, as if it were sharp. About 30 different places will have this feeling, and then it changes to different locations almost immediately.

I have been to the doctors about it, and they performed tests, and concluded that I had low allergy to cats, grass, and a high allergy to tuna.

This only seems to happen in the, particularly this time of the year. I just can't understand why they say its these factors considering I have lived with cats everyday of my life (I am 19), and I virtually have a whole can of Tuna on a sandwich for lunch and have no effects.

I can have no contact with these, but experience itching, generally immediately after I begin sweating.

I can't exercise because I immediately begin sweating and itching, and gaining weight fast.

Itching Skin- Skin Condition or Plain Allergy?
It sounds like you have dry skin. It can make you feel like you're being poked. I feel exactly like that if I don't moisturize. Since you're a guy you probably don't use a moisturizer or body lotion. In the winter the skin gets more dry. Get a body lotion (you can get unscented) and apply it after every shower. Even if your skin looks normal it may still need moisturizing to protect it from the air and wind.

What you said about the sweating makes me think your pores and sweat glands are irritated by something. You may want to change soaps and laundry detergent. Think about the chemicals you're exposed to that could cause itching. It could be a food, but I think it's more likely something you have skin contact with.
Reply:log onto morgellons.org to compare symptoms . only a 30x handheld lighted microscope will enable you to look at your skin to detect any fibers . cheep tool on line about 25 bucks then show your doctor the fibers and print out info from morgellons.org .

no treatment yet but at least the doc wont label you buts if you show him the fibers through the scope

I have Great dane puppy she has some allergy on her skin, swolling all over body?
You need to take her to see your vet. Plus, if you're unsure of what's causing her skin allergy, you shouldn't be trying to treat it yourself as you might make it worse.
Reply:take puppy to vets
Reply:I would take her to the vet asap
Reply:how long has she had it? might be mange or mites, there are 2 types of mange, one is cureable the other isnt. take it to the vets, they will give her a bath of special stuff to sort it out.

When my son was 4, he tested on a skin prick test as having a slight egg allergy, which I knew he had because?

of a couple of reactions towards mayonaise and meringue. When he was 5 his skin test showed negative but she wanted to wait one more year before giving the okay on a food challenge test. This year, at 6, his skin test and blood test were neg. and we were scheduled for a food challenge test when I had given him a bite of an italian muffaleta without thinking. Well, he had a reaction, not severe, but little whelps around the mouth and itchy. I called and got the ingredients of the sandwich and mayo was the only thing on there I could identify with his allergy. (he is also allergic to tree nuts and shell fish). I canceled his food challenge test because I assumed this meant he still hadn't outgrown the egg allergy. This was 6 months ago. The office called me to confirm a follow up and I told them I didn't go through with the test so I wanted to cancel the follow up and explained to the nurse why. There was a message on my machine today from the nurse saying the doctor still wants

When my son was 4, he tested on a skin prick test as having a slight egg allergy, which I knew he had because?
The doctor may want to do the food challenge because both the blood and skin test are "indicators," and it is promising that his were both negative. Many allergists will recommend a food challenge in this situation because passing a challenge means that you don't have to restrict your child's diet unnecessarily, perhaps lessening nutritional concerns and certainly alleviating any anxiety about the risk of severe reactions.

My 4-year old son is allergic to peanuts, tree nuts and egg whites, but his numbers do not warrant food challenges at this time. The most common statistics say that 45% of kids with egg allergies outgrow it by 5. Obviously, that is not so in your son's case but I believe that it can happen at any time. I know someone who is 6 who just outgrew a severe egg allergy (he passed the food challenge) and spent the entire weekend eating scrambled eggs for every meal!
Reply:Firstly, a negative skin and blood test can occur even if allergy exists. False positives also occur. Testing for foods is not a reliable as testing for things such as pollen.

Secondly, you can develop an allergy at any time even if the foods were previously safe.

Thirdly, generally, if a child is going to outgrow an allergy it occurs when they hit puberty. Likewise, many seniors never had allergies during childhood or adulthood but developed them after the "change of life". Pregnancy is another major hormonal change that can result in allergies.

Do you really want to subject your child to a reaction - given what you just experienced? I am not sure if you are seeing a pediatric allergist or not but I would recommend finding one that is reputable.

Your son could just be reacting to the egg in the mayo or it could be another ingredient. Often secondary ingredients are not disclosed. For example, icing sugar - corn starch is used to keep it from clumping but that is not disclosed. Chocolate chips is another example where the actual ingredients of the chocolate chips are not stated just that there are chocolate chips.

Generally a food challenge test is used when the wrong food is suspected as the cause of symptoms. Or to prove that a food is NOT the cause of symptoms. They can also be used to discover the degree of sensitivity is another reason for performing food challenges.

A food challenge test would confirm the egg allergy but it would not tell you if there is also not a new allergy to something else.

If it were me I would keep an eye out for new allergies by keeping a diary of foods and their ingredients. As far as the egg, if there has been a concrete correlation of egg to reaction in the past, I would wait until after puberty to introduce it into your son's diet just to be safe. The less the body is exposed to allergens, the better the immune system and less likely to developing more allergies in a susceptible individual.

I have a cat with skin lesions...I think it may be an allergy???

My three year old cat was so itchy two years ago and developed skinlesions that would scab and bleed. I took her to two separate vets. They did food trials, bloodwork, fleas negative, ringworm negative, ear mites negative, feline leukemia negative. They tried antibiotics, flea meds, and gave steroids for relief. To make along story short, before consenting to a biopsy or expensive allergy testing, I went to a local natural petfood store and got some different food. She has been perfectly fine for a whole year. Now, two weeks ago , she has started with the skin problems again. Anybody else have similar experience?? I have made appt. with vet next week but wonder if anyone has advice.

I have a cat with skin lesions...I think it may be an allergy???
Pet food manufacturers are notorious for 'tweaking' their ingredients, and that can result in exactly what you describe. Check the label on the current food with one from an older bag to be sure. That's how we found out our cat was allergic to Rosemary Extract, it'd been raised up 3 lines in the Royal Canin Siamese and she suddenly broke out in little BB size bumps everywhere. A pair of cats on one of the lists I was on had the same issue and we saw it was the change made by the manufacturer that caused it.

Check for a diffrent food, if the current one isn't working anymore. It's sometimes all you can do with allergy prone cats. You don't want them on steroids for too long.
Reply:I don't know if this helps. We have a Pug dog that got something that sounded like that. He also got a really funky smell. They did the same with antibiotics and such. They said it was a fungis but, they did not know what caused it. I just kept on with the antibiotics, two runs and kept him really clean. It took months to go away but now he has been free of it for almost a year. good luck.
Reply:If she has food allergies, you may have to rotate out the main protein source every 6 months.. That's what I have to do with one of my dogs.. She's eats California Natural which has very limited ingredients and we rotate her between the lamb and chicken foods.. I would still take her to the vet though for a skin scraping and other tests just in case they do find something this time..

Allergy reaction or skin disorder?

i have this problem that's been plaguing me for years. Been to many doctors but, each time they give different reasons and medications that don't really work. My problem goes like this:

1st stage: my lips will swell and it'll sting very badly.

2nd stage: the swelling would reduce

3rd stage: after swelling, lips will be very very dry and chapped

4th stage: chapped lips will peel and bleed quite badly

This is sometimes accompanied by rashes on my right hand's fingers.

I'm wondering if others do suffer the same as me (coz, almost all that i know don't). Several diagnoses include ezcema, lack of vitamins and allergy reaction. Does anyone know the real answer?

Allergy reaction or skin disorder?
Boy, if this doesn't hit home. I have the same problem and it has been diagnosed as a skin allergy. I find that if I just drink water and not carbonated beverages it helps. Tomatoes really make my lips swell or tomato sauces. I find that Carmex helps to heal them, I buy it at the local CVS pharmacy here. Take a good multi vitamin in the morning, that helps me and keep hydrocortizone 1% cream on the shelf for your hands. Dish detergent irritates the rash so I use gloves when I do dishes or any household cleaning. Also I keep Benedryl on had, it is over the counter and an allergy medication that at one time was only prescription. Good Luck.
Reply:its vitamin deficiency...
Reply:Have you been putting those lips and fingers somewhere your god may disapprove of?
Reply:sounds like allergy to me... try to remember what kind of foods you had at the breakout, process of eliminiation. Doesn't hurt to do a full allergy test just to rule it out.
Reply:the lips swelling /sting mouth could be cause by a fungi which grows in the mouth.the remedy to this is seeing a dentist for proper washin of the tooth to remove that inside fungi called stepyclococci..the dryness could be lack of vitamins which causea a disease called pellagra.the only remedy is takin enough of fruits..the rashes could be caused by athretis which as a result of comsumption of bad or polluted water. this could be corrected by seen the doctor to flush out the bad water in the system.also u take antibiotics drugs to fight against those reaction.take also what is called fuseen a strong antibiotics to destroy those fungi growing on the body.
Reply:Could be a nutrition deficiency or an allergy, but i advise you get to a dermatologist and take a blood test.
Reply:I have had similar reactions when I have had a fever. Check your temp the next time stage 1 starts.

Also my son went through swollen lips last year. They where red around the whole lip. Took him to an allergist and he said to keep away from cinninmon, mint (toothpast) and chap stick
Reply:my son had the same problem nuts done his in so he mustnt eat nuts or any food cakes etc that have nuts or nut oils in them maybe you are allergic to something else so it would b trial and error
Reply:Hi,

Your symptoms are pretty to similar to that of my sister's.

We are not quite sure what it is as well... but she did get better after she went through a detox programme.

I specialize in helping people solve their problems (overweight, underweight, skin allergies, ezcema, lack of balance in body) through detox programmes and encouraged her to go through one because she was complaining about her lips..

After she did the detox, she no longer has to religiously apply creams to her lips and I no longer see her lips peeling and bleeding.

Yorkie with skin problems. Could this be a food allergy?

I am a groomer and have a client with a yorkie that even after I bathed him he smelled bad. After awhile he was diagnosed this yeast and was given Malaseb. Several weeks later he came in with a keratinized area on the back of his neck that was very red. The owners took him to the vet and they gave him another medicated shampoo, powder and a pill (don't know what exactly). I bathed him last week and his skin is just red as a beet. A groomer friend of mine says she think it's a food allergy. She recommended some kind of yorkie food,..." ? Gold" Any suggestions about this problem.

Yorkie with skin problems. Could this be a food allergy?
He may still have a fungal infection. Sounds like the owners need to have his skin cultured again for a followup to see if any yeast/bacteria are present in large numbers. He may have a secondary bacterial infection. If the yeast were not controlled with the shampoo, he could be given a systemic fungal control drug. Everyone always assumes it's food allergies, and it may be, but i would want to see the results of a culture....there are dog allergy specialists out there if an allergy is suspected. Their vet will probably have to refer them if he suspects it is an allergy.
Reply:yes most defintely could be a food allergy.we have been through many foods untill we found one now the dog is beautiful full coat and no smell,or reddness or itchyness. If the coat has a red tint to legs underbelly, that could be a yeast infection, but the change of food fixed the problem.
Reply:I have seen and heard about this. It could be a food allergy or an unknown skin condition. I read about it because my dog had pretty much the same thing and she is a Yorkie too.. Hers just slowly went away. I read about others and it was a skin condition that took them forever to figure out.
Reply:Have you test the shampoo on a small area of his skin.

dog can have allergy. Take him back to the basic and Introduces one thing back at a time.

proccess of elimition
Reply:Yes, pets can develop allergies from pet foods.

good luck
Reply:My Yorkie had a similar problem and after many, many trips to the Vet we discovered she was allergic to fleas. There is something in their saliva that causes an allergic reaction when they bite her. We keep her on flea control meds year round and as long as the fleas are gone, Maggie has no more skin problems. But, if it is a food allergy, it seems like the only way to solve the problem is to find out exactly what (in the food) the dog is allergic to. Then find a dog food without that ingredient.

Allergy testing/ skin reaction?

I recently was tested for my outdoor allergies. I had the little pricks on my back %26amp; then shots of it in the arm to double check the ones that came up negative. That was 6 days ago %26amp; some of the red areas on my arm haven't gone away! Should I be concerned about this? I'm not having any bad reactions except it kind of looks like a small rash at the injection sites. I guess I just expected it to have gone away by now.... Help?

Allergy testing/ skin reaction?
No. This is normal and unless they look infected, there is no reason to worry. Sometimes the areas are just super sensitive after the testing. Try putting topical steroid cream like hydrocortisone 1% on the area.

Good luck!
Reply:that sounds like a long time. but some of us have sensitive skin and it's not even a reaction you are seeing, but just the actual little prick from the needle. those take a couple extra days. so, if it's just the one's where the needles were, it's probably not the allergen that your arm is still reacting to, but just the needle.

good luck!
Reply:I had the same thing when I was tested it should be alright.Just keep a eye on it,and notify your D.R. if it gets worse.
Reply:You should have a return appointment with your doctor to check the places on your arm, but you are in no danger if it just appears as a small rash. It will just tell the doctor that you are allergic to those things. If you should experience difficulty breathing then that would indicate a more severe reaction which would require immediate medical attention
Reply:Put some benadryl creme on it.
Reply:Calm down... somtimes stress can worsen or cause a rash. First off, put some aloe vera on it, and then call your doctor to see if this normally happens.
Reply:No you're fine. Ive had that so many tI'mes before. because I'm deadly allergic to peanuts, tree nuts, (these next things im not deadly allergic to just allergic) pollen, dust, dust mites, trees, grass, any animal that has fur and some kind of medicine that i cant remember the name of. Don't worry about it.
Reply:If you are allergic to the places they shot in your arm, I don't think it is uncommon to last that long. I am allergic to nickel and if i touch it for even a minute, my break out will last about a week or 2.

Good luck.

What are the symtoms of allergy caused by chemical contact to skin?

i have red rash on my chest, back, neck n face skin.i used sulfur on my skin lastnight and i found out the rash this morning.does the sulfur cause the allergy to me?or is it related to something else?maybe bitten by mosquitoes?i also have a headache.is it also related to the allergy if i really have one?

What are the symtoms of allergy caused by chemical contact to skin?
It sure looks like you've got a sulfur-allergy.A sulfur allergy starts with a bright red rash that burns and itches, arround the eyes, forhead, arms and chest...you can also get migraine-like headaches, with preasure on one or both ears...I suggest you visit your doc.!
Reply:It sounds like an allergic reaction. Sulpher can also be poisonous if used wrong.
Reply:The rash is the first sign, you may get sick also..
Reply:Yes it is more than likely that it is a allergic reaction. The headache is from the allergic reaction.
Reply:Itching, burning, hives, open sores, blisters, redness, peeling of skin, swelling, numbness are all symptoms of chemical allergic reactions. The sulfur most likely is causing the reaction but the only way to be sure is to go to a physician and take a general allergy test. Mosquitoes leave bumps, not rashes. And as far as the headache goes, that is usually not a sign of allergys to chemicals. Headache is usually related to congestion due to airborne related allergens.
Reply:IF you get a rash because of contact at particular place it can be because of 'contact dermatitis' this is one kind of reaction of body to the antigen. And if the allergy is systamic- pertaining to whole body its type 3 IMMUNOLOGICAL reaction which can be fatal like pencilin allergy. This is called ANAPHYLACCIX IT can happen because of food, preservatives in food, certain sea foods, chocolates(TRYPTOPHAN) peanuts, milk,Drugs, etc
