ive just been to the vet with my dog and she was telling me its very common in westies, she told me to put my dog on the burns food its a low protein food which supposedly helps and generally not to let her sleep on soft bedding, carpet or roll around in wet grass, try a kinesiologist for allergies for your dog

I have a Westie and he has an allergy to grass.

It affects him like humans, running eyes, sneezing and running nose.

If he lays on the grass, his fur falls out. When he walks on the grass his feet itch and he bites them like crazy till they bleed.

Vet said to give him Periton...(hayfever tablets)...he is a lot better now.

Check what you dog is eating, but it could be something else, try an antihistamine. Childs dose!

Westies are very prone to allergies.

Hope he is better soon

Reply:Our Westie is allergic to meat (including lamb and chicken) and to essentially all grains, especially wheat, corn, soy, and to a lesser extent, rice. Barley seems okay. But she does great on Wellness brand dry food, the kind composed of fish and sweet potatoes. Nolvassen brand shampoo, also, is the gentlest shampoo for dogs: your vet should have it, but it's not cheap. A general tip: check all cookie and treat packages VERY carefully for traces of meat or grains (if that turns out to be the problem). We thought at one time that spelt was okay, only to learn that it's a kind of wheat! Wet Nose (I think) brand pumpkin cookies are great and cause Miss Molly no problems (taste good to me, too!). :)
