what is the main protein source of the food you feed?Even though the food is hypoallergenic,it could be that she has a problem with something in that brand. Most times food problems are because of corn, soy, wheat,or byproducts. At times though a dog may have problems with chicken, beef or some other meat used as the main protein source. If your food uses chicken, you may need to find a lamb based food. You may even have to find some of the specialty foods that use venison, duck,or other protein sources.
What is the most common allergy for dogs? I have her on hypoallergenic food%26amp;she continues to tear at her skin.
Pollen.
Reply:she could have a yeast infection of the skin, ask a vet.
Reply:Dogs can get hayfever allergies just like people. I would guess it's something like that, rather than food. Talk to a vet.
Reply:have you ruled out fleas? Sometimes grass pollen causes problems as well. If you are concerned take her to a vet for a consult. Injections may help or if all else fails you may need to do allergy testing.
Reply:this can be part behavior, though it certainly is triggered
by dry and itchy skin.
Reply:I would take her to the vet. It could be as simple as the type of shampoo, but it could be as complex as Mange. Just take her to the vet.
Reply:Ragweeds Pollen. my dogs is and get rashes. give ur dog benydrel in a siringe daily to help.
Reply:My dog is allergic to flea-saliva or something like that, because every spring and summer I have to take her to the vet for a shot and put her on heartguard or she will break the skin scratching.
Reply:I am not sure at the cause but it sounds like she has a skin allergy. But duh, that might be redundant. My friend's cocker spaniel has the same problem, unknown cause. She gives him benadryl(under vet instructions), and mixes his dry food with olive oil and moist food. Hope that helps!
Reply:Is it a schnauzer? They are known for having skin allergies. Spring and summer they have hay fever like humans. My pervious dog would sometimes get a dog sized amount of diphenhydramine hcl.(benadryl) She would scratch and scratch like crazy...
