My 8 month old pug bites at his feet - the vet said skin allergies & no real treatment just a flea shampoo?

my 8 month old bites at his feet and scratches elsewhere occasionally. He had mange when he was a puppy but it was treated with dips. The vet said that he probably has skin allergies, but we don't know to what. He gave him a cortisone shot, and gave me a flea shampoo and an anit-inflammatory lotion. They don't seem to help - any suggestions out there?

If he's scratching his ears and then eating at his paw, he probably has an ear infection. I have three pugs and this is very common with them. Try getting a shampoo that has vitamin E and has good moisture. It works for mine every time!
Reply:I don't know what it could be but my moms dog does the same thing. He bites at the hair on his front paws, and it gets worse when he stresses out because he has actually bitten the hair off before. If what he suggested isn't working, call him back because there may be something else he can try. Good luck!
Reply:I'm not sure what it is called, but there is a blue/purple ointment that stops a dog from masticating itself because of how bad it tastes. You can buy it at pet stores or feed stores. It helps with the healing process and is one of the only things I've found that will stop a dog from chewing on itself. Make sure it dries before the dog comes inside the house, though! The purple stuff stains when it's wet.
Reply:I've seen this answered before and the guy sure seemed to know what he was talking about. He said it has something to do with diet. I think he was from down under. Hey Aussie, I remember that you said that you were answering for the last time, the last time, but could you help out once more? thanks
Reply:my pug does the same thing. We were also told that he probably has allergies. We just use a special shampoo. His ears have also almost completely closed, so he is almost deaf.
Reply:If he is having skin problems then I would try changing his food. I would suggest something that is high in omega 3. This is what I feed my dog and her coat is always shiny and healthy, her shedding decreased dramatically, and she no longer scratches herself contanstantly:
