Skin allergies - fur, dust, dirty water, grass and pollen please help!!?

i recently got a puppy and my boyfriend has the worst allergies which kind of ruins some days... he can't come over to my house kus of my dog, swim in the beach, or have a picnic on the grass and it drives me crazy because he gets itchy so easily... nobody else in his family seems to have skin allegies and i was wondering if his allergies will last forever, he's 18 right now... i was wondering if shots, pills, or patches can get rid of the allergies for good or at least allow him be around my dog

I think he should consider immunology. My 5 year old is allergic to pet dander, grasses, pollen, dust mites, ect. He had developed a cough that would not go away. I had been working with his allergy doctor (he is also allergic to tree nuts) on medications that would take the cough away. We finally, after 9 months of coughing, started him on immunology and he is doing great now. It took a couple of months before the shots started to work but he is doing so much better now that we got him a puppy and he has had him since February and everything is going great! A lot of people don't believe in the shots, and it may not work for everyone...but it worked for us. Definetly worth a try.
Reply:He should see an allergist to get on the right medication to control his symptoms. Some people outgrow their allergies, many do not.

While waiting for a referral from his doctor, he can also see an acupuncturist. Acupuncture can reduce some allergy symptoms, and one technique called cupping can really help asthma symptoms.

By the way, I have a cat and many previous boyfriends were allergic to her. When I met my current boyfriend and he was able to play with her without sneezing, I knew he was the one to hang on to. Just a thought. Good luck.
Reply:First off I am not a doc so its not 100% correct but I do have a lot of allergies myself including, dogs, cats, hay, grass, dust, mold, pollen and probably some I am not even aware I have. Mine however are not skin allergies although my son does have a skin allergie to ranch dressing. I take pills everyday for mine and they do help a little a though this time of year they are always bad. I have been thinking about getting shots for them but they can be very costly and I would have to get an even costlire test prior to getting shots so for now I have to live with it the best I can. I would suggest your bf go see a doc if they are so bad that he can't carry on with everyday life, which it sound like thats the case. Be patient with him because chances are that he will not out grow them if he is already 18 and has had them for a while.
